Dona Paula Beach is one of the major beach hot spots of Goa. The beach has a rich legend associated to it. The beach is located on the western frontier of the Goan capital Panaji. The beach got its name from Dona Paula de Menzes, daughter of a viceroy in colonial India. She was not allowed to marry the local fisherman Gaspar Dias whom she fell in love with. She committed suicide from one of the cliff of the beach. Cabo Chapel of the Raj Bhawan is said to be haunted by the spirit of Dona Paula. |
