Are you feeling energetic in your trip to Maharashtra? Then the best thing for you would be to take a stroll down Marine Drive in Mumbai and explore the city at its best! This is one of the most popular places of tourist attraction in Mumbai, as well as in Maharashtra. Mumbai’s Marine Drive is a 3 km long boulevard located in South Mumbai. Marine Drive is an inverted ‘C’-shaped six lane concrete road that passes along the coast, which is a natural bay. The roads of the Marine Drive connects Nariman Point to Babulnath and the Malabar Hills. The bay is a part of the Arabian Sea and Marine Drive is situated over reclaimed land overlooking west-south-west. |
Marine Drive is a windswept promenade that has been flanked by the Arabian Sea and is lined by a row of art deco buildings and constructions. Hidden between the concrete jungle of Nariman Point (Mumbai’s Manhattan) and the plush green slopes of the Malabar Hill, Marine Drive was appropriately called as the Queen’s Necklace. This name was simply because the entire path was strung with glittering streetlights that gave the impression of an enormous strand of precious dazzling jewels while lighted at night. Marine Drive is also one of the busiest roads in Mumbai that is always alive with the noise of the vehicles. This is one of the most frequently visited seafronts in Mumbai city where most of the Mumbai people and tourists come to breathe in fresh air.
Marine Drive looks stunning during the sunset when the red sun slowly takes a nightlong dip into the azure waters of the sea. People from many places come to see this magnificent view of sunset at Marine Drive. Visit the Chowpatty Beach at the northern end of Marine Drive which is famous for its spicy Bhelpuri. Most of the buildings near Marine Drive were built by the wealthy Parsis who stayed here in the 1920s and 1930s. These buildings sport an ethnic art deco look amidst the concrete jungle of modern skyscrapers.
