Surfing

Surfing is a surface water sport. Those who participate in the surfing sport are carried along the face of a breaking wave when the wave approaches towards the shore. The common things used for surfing include kneeboards, body boards, kayaks, surf skis, and their own bodies. This adventurous sport originated from European reference in Hawaii in 1799. Surfing is a sport of native Hawaiian life. The sport originated from Hawaiian society. Usually surfers who take part in the sport represent diverse cultures while riding the naturally occurring process of ocean waves. There are some people who find this sport as a recreational activity while there are others who practice this sport with complete devotion making it as an important part of their lives.


    With time the adventurous sport has become so popular that it now represents a multi-billion dollar industry. Some people even pursue career in this sport by taking active part in corporate sponsored sports and contests while there are others who separate themselves from any kind of commercialism associated with the sport. Surfing when the surfer eyes the wave on the horizon and then staying ahead until the surfboard is completely planned down. Surfing can easily be done on different surfing equipment which includes surfboards, bodyboards, wave skis, kneeboards and surf mat. Originally surfboards were made of solid wood and were generally quite large and heavy. The modern surfboards are usually made of fiberglass cloth, and polyester resin. There are different types of surfboard sizes, shapes, designs taken in modern use. Surfboards of medium size are called as fun boards.

    The sport is quite adventurous as there are risks of drowning as well as danger from sea life. Different types of sea life can cause injuries and even death.
